A live spinner for your lecture slides

Use a slide link for a quick setup, or install the content add-in to place the live wheel directly on a slide.

QUICK SETUP

Open the spinner from a slide

  1. Select a text box, shape, or image in PowerPoint.
  2. Choose Insert → Link and paste https://lecture-lab-production.up.railway.app/spinner?mode=popout.
  3. During Slide Show, click the link to open the live browser spinner. Resize the window or use its wheel-size slider.
  4. Switch back to PowerPoint to continue your lecture.

This opens a browser window. It does not place live content inside the slide.

Install the Spingage content add-in

The manifest connects PowerPoint to the hosted spinner. Internet access and permission to use custom Office add-ins are required.

Download add-in manifest

PowerPoint on Mac

  1. Download the XML manifest above.
  2. In Finder, use Go → Go to Folder to open ~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.Powerpoint/Data/Documents/wef. Create the wef folder if needed.
  3. Copy the manifest there and restart PowerPoint.
  4. Open a presentation. Use Home → Add-ins and select Spingage Student Spinner. Some Office versions list installed add-ins under Insert → My Add-ins.

PowerPoint on the web

In the Add-ins manager, use Upload My Add-in if available and upload the XML manifest. The menu depends on your account and Office version. If upload is unavailable, ask your Microsoft 365 administrator to deploy the manifest or use the slide link.

For institutional use, ask your Microsoft 365 administrator to deploy the manifest. For local evaluation, Microsoft provides a trusted shared-folder catalog method. That method is for testing rather than production distribution.

Use and resize the live wheel

  1. Sign in inside the add-in and select your saved class. Use Edit roster if you need to update it.
  2. Drag the slide object's corner handles to resize it. Use its wheel-size slider to adjust the wheel within the object.
  3. In Slide Show, click the wheel, then start or customize the response timer.

The add-in requests restricted Office permissions and does not read or change slide content. Your Spingage sign-in is required to access saved classroom data. Classes, student memberships, and participation points are saved to your private Spingage account in PostgreSQL. No names or passwords appear in the manifest. Each view has its own response timer.

Verify interaction and audio in your Office version before class. Installation depends on your institution's policy. Browser or Office suspension can delay notification sound until the content resumes. If custom add-ins or sign-in cookies are blocked in the Office webview, use the slide-link option to sign in through your browser.

Website or LMS embedding

For a page that supports iframe embeds, use the compact address /spinner?mode=embed. The app's PowerPoint button provides a copyable iframe snippet. The regular dashboard keeps framing disabled.

PowerPoint does not accept raw iframe code as a standard slide object. Use the content add-in above for a live object inside a slide.
